Robotics
I am on the First Robotics Team The Outliers. A student driven team (lead by John Amory and Anna) that all work to a common goal of building a robot and competing with other students and teams from all over the world. This was my first year on the team and on Fridays and most Thursday afternoons I would be found in the robotics room or the robotics closet located right off the fab lab. This year I have worked on little bits of the robot, wherever someone needed and extra set of hands. Even though this season has been suspended due to COVID-19 I have tried my best to find ways of improving the team when we do get back up and running. Like finding new ways of teaching new students about robotics. Coming in as a freshman this year I felt rather clueless. So I started writing down ideas of how we could make that not happen so much with new students next year. Being on the team has helped me learn to make myself useful even if I have almost no experience in the field, and the best way to learn is to do it yourself and find ways to improve.
Editing
Due to the development of the virus South Freeport Congregational Church stopped having worship services. My mom is the administrator at the church and I am quite frequently the much needed tech support. Since Palm Sunday and Easter are big holidays in the Christian calendar they wanted to make worship videos for those days. I was asked to edit the videos together due to my (rather limited) experience with iMovie. And thinking it would be a fun project I took it on. For both Sundays people sent in videos to me so I could make it all work. I put music in, and and added all of the components necessary for a regular church service. Everyone was rather pleased and after a week of a break from editing I was asked to do it again, and since, on Saturdays I am delightfully editing the worship services together for the following Sunday. As always there are complications, such as only owning a windows laptop for myself, and wanting to work only with my own materials, so unlike the lovely first few videos, the ones I did with the built in video editor for windows ended up not being so pretty. But I switched back to using a system on Apple products I’m all back to making nice videos for the church. This is great experience for me and I really enjoy it and hope to make editing one of my side professions.
